Roller Techniques

Apply paint using the "M" roller pattern technique. Each fully loaded roller covers about four square feet.

  • Roll out the letter "M" as shown.
  • Cross roll to spread paint.
  • Finish with light roller strokes in one direction but at a right angle to the cross roll.
7. Door Techniques
  • Before you begin, remove or cover the hinge, knob and latch with masking tape. If some paint does get on the hardware, wipe it away immediately with a soft cloth.
  • Begin by painting the top panels of the door, painting the moulding edges first.
  • Next, paint the remaining panel area by first brushing across, then up and down. Upon completing all panels, paint the remaining area and finish the door edges.
  • Painting Flush Doors: Paint them the same way you would paint a wall or other flat surface. Paint the edges first, then fill in the large area. Complete the job by painting the frame and jamb.
